Don’t miss a weekend of VSCC Touring this May
Thursday 04 May 2017
The Club will host two fantastic Tour events next weekend with the Cornish Tour on Saturday 13 May, followed by this year’s Derbyshire Tour on Sunday 14 May – entries for both events close soon so don’t miss the opportunity to participate in your Pre-war cars.
Cornish Tour – Saturday 13 May
Long-time Club Member and South-West native, John Fack and team invite you to join them for a relaxed tour through the fabulous scenery and almost deserted roads of North Cornwall and relive the flavour of how motoring used to be many years ago.
Based at the St Moritz Hotel in Trebetherick on the beautiful Camel Estuary just a few miles north of Rock and Wadebridge, there will be two routes for participants to choose from: the Short Route of approximately 57 miles will suit the slower and less powerful cars; it might also be the route of choice in the event of inclement weather; a Long Route of just under 80 miles will suit the faster cars and those with a ‘sense of adventure’, taking in the whole of the wilderness of Bodmin Moor as well as the Coastal & Rural sections.
The two routes are identical up to the planned Lunch Break at the Rising Sun, one of the most rustic pubs you will ever find.
The Tour divides itself in to three sections, for both the Long and Short Routes:
Entry Fee: £25.00 per car Closing Date: 7 May
Download Regulations and an Entry Form or enter online from the event page (CLICK HERE). Remember you will need to know the Buff Form number of the car you wish to enter and have a current payment card registered with the Club to use the online entry facility (note Buff Forms are not required to participate).
Derbyshire Tour – Sunday 14 May
This year’s Derbyshire Tour moves to its own standalone date following several successful years as an accompaniment to the Club’s John Harris Trial in March and is open to all Pre-war cars driven by VSCC Members.
John Higgs and team have once again planned a fascinating route through the White Peak District in North Derbyshire, a beautiful setting in the Spring, which will take you off the beaten track through parts of the County that would be missed without that ‘local knowledge’.
The day’s tour of around 65 miles will start at Heage Windmill, a 1797 Grade 2 listed working mill, and wind a way across to Hartington (famous for its cheese making) passing places such as the Eccelesbourne Heritage Railway at Wirksworth, the Tramway Museum at Crich and the 1904 Hill Climb at Hazelwood – now a road!
You will receive a comprehensive Tour Route Book to guide you on your way; this will not only provide information on the history of the places you will pass, but also the best places to get suitable refreshment along the way.
We look forward to a good turnout of Club Members both old and new.
Entry Fee: £20.00 per car Closing Date: 7 May
Download Supplementary Regulations and an Entry Form or enter online from the event page (CLICK HERE). The Tour divides itself in to three sections, for both the Long and Short Routes:
- The North Cornwall Coastal Route section will take in villages and beaches on the North Coast from Polzeath up to Boscastle with some stunning sea views, before heading south to Bodmin Moor via the road crossing of Davidstow Airfield – known as Cornwall’s F1 circuit in the early 1950s – and its quirky military museums.
- The Bodmin Moor section takes you into the wilderness whether you opt for the Long or the Short route. Expect stunning rocky scenery above the tree-line, empty roads and practically no people. Those taking the Long route will circumnavigate the Moor on scenic roads to the South-East before heading North up the River Fowey to pass by the famous Jamaica Inn.
- The Rural section works its way back to Trebetherick via small country roads with coaching bridges over the many rivers which thread through Cornwall’s picturesque villages that are all located off the tourist trail.
