Eastern Rally
16 Jul 2016
Elveden Hall, Thetford, Norfolk
This year’s summer Rally will see the revival of the old Eastern Rally, which is being organised by the team of Piers Hart, Don Smith and Nic Portway, who have got together again after an absence of 20 years.
The event will be based at Elveden Hall (823800), by kind permission of Lord Iveagh, just south of Thetford on the A11. The route will take Competitors through 90 miles of uncongested lanes in south Norfolk and the Waveney Valley in Suffolk. There will be the usual classes to test the skills of experts and novices alike.
However, since the Norfolk Tour will be taking place within a fortnight of the Rally, there will be no touring class. The Rally will run straight through, without a lunch break, which will allow a slightly later start of 10.30am, with Competitors signing-on from 8.30am. A breakfast bacon and sausage bap (incl. vegetarian alternative) with tea/coffee for the crews is included in the entry fee. At the end of the Rally, Members will be able to socialise and take refreshment in the Euston Estate’s restaurant, adjoining the Hall. A light meal/high tea will be available and pre-booking is recommended: details will be circulated to entrants in due course.
Accommodation is available at the Elveden Inn, and there are a few comfortable B&Bs nearby. It’s best to look on line, or contact Piers on 01842 890508 (piers@piers-hart.co.uk) for advice.
Regulations and Entry Forms will be available online or from TOPO. If you do not wish to compete but would like to be involved, please contact Nic Portway, the Chief Marshal, on 01449 775 060 (nic@newwensum.co.uk).
Finally, for those who took part in the Eastern all those years ago, and who collect such items, there will be mugs!
