The Measham Rally
14 Jan 2012 - 15 Jan 2012
Waterstock Golf Club, Nr Oxford, OX33 1HT
In Bulletin No.81 (Spring 1964), N. Arnold-Forster wrote a 3 page article entitled “In Praise of The Measham”. In it he stated “The Measham is the best event in the vintage calendar”, and by “best” he meant “that event which most fully satisfies the sporting needs of its ( the VSCC’s) members”. He mentioned that something very close to 98% of the club membership have never competed in it – a sobering thought. So, why not join the elite few? There are just three and a half months remaining in which to prepare the car and find a navigator. Unquestionably the best way to put the festive season firmly behind you is by entering the Measham Rally in your favourite car.
In 2012 you will be able to enjoy the beauty of almost undiscovered parts of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and the Chiltern Hills. Centred again on the Waterstock Golf Club next to the Oxford M40 services, the rally will use straightforward navigation by map references – no trickery or brain strain involved. The organisers want all levels of competitors, whether new to rallying or experts, to find their way around the route, and to enjoy this once-a-year opportunity to spend the night with some vintage friends. For those who will be unfortunate in not having a car in roadworthy condition, there is always the opportunity to marshal. This is especially good fun on the Measham (unless you are one of the two people sent off too early to a cold lonely spot this year), and comes highly recommended – even by them!
