Summer Rally
09 Jun 2013
Grimsthorpe Castle, Nr Bourne, Lincolnshire PE10 0LY
Following the success of the Spring Rally in Lincolnshire last year, the VSCC return to the same area for this year’s Summer Rally. Dick Patten and his team have negotiated a rather ‘grand venue’ for the start and finish, namely Grimsthorpe Castle, www.grimsthorpe.co.uk, which is located between Colsterworth and Bourne.
Grimsthorpe Castle has been in the Willoughby de Eresby family for nearly 500 years and the family is one of three in England who still fulfil the hereditary office of Lord Chamberlain, the Monarch’s representative at the Palace of Westminster. The castle holds an important collection of furniture including coronation thrones from the Old Palace of Westminster.
The route will follow approximately 102 miles of roads within the castle grounds and the little used Lincolnshire and Rutland lanes, which are ideal for our types of cars. The halfway lunch stop will be at The Horse & Jockey at Manton, Rutland, www.horseandjockeyrutland.co.uk, where we have been promised a special welcome.
