This year’s Autumn Rally moves north, starting and finishing at Cromford Mill, Mill Rd, Matlock, Cromford, Derbyshire DE4 3RQ. Cromford Mill was the first water-powered, cotton spinning mill, developed by Richard Arkwright in 1771. It’s an interesting starting point with ample parking and good range of shops if you have the time to browse. Cath Woodman has organised a navigational rally in two parts, totalling approximately 100 miles, through the beautiful Peak District. As the name implies it’s a hilly route, benefitting from tremendous views across the craggy Derbyshire countryside. The start will be 10.00am and the finish shortly after 4.00pm; fuel is available before the lunch stop. The lunch stop, for which 1½ hours has been allowed, will be at the recently refurbished Charles Cotton Hotel, which is located in Market Place, Hartington, Derbyshire SK17 0AL. The village of Hartington is set in the stunning Peak District National Park and is famous for cheese-making. Novice and Champagne Class Route Instructions will be kept straight-forward with plenty of grid references to keep you on track.
